Child sponsorship update from Lhasa, China

Update for child sponsors from the SOS Children's Village Lhasa, China from Winter 2007.

Up to now, there are 17 family houses, 182 children in the village. Now, we would like to report our work as follows:

A. Work for SOS Children’s Village
This year, we send 2 mothers and one co-worker to attend the 32nd mother’s training course conducted by SOS Children’s Villages of China. Through training, all the mothers had improved their quality and knowledge and developed their work concept.

According to the principle of running the children's village we have recruited 3 new children. Up to now, the total number of the children is 182.

In the family administration, from the second half year of 2006, our village has been sticking to the principle of systematic, taking "all is for children, for children’s all" as the main goal of our work. Under the leadership of the village director, we go to each family to check the children’s food, the sanitation and so on every week. And we divided the public facilities, trees and lawns to each family and the staffs. Use public holidays to take the “five good families” and the “excellent mother” to inland to visit and study. We remade mother’s check-up standard and made good environment of being industrious and thrifty in managing a house. We have further strengthened checking the family education reserving fund and reserve necessary fund for the growth of the children. Through these ways to improve the staffs and mothers work and made them have better understanding of their profession and wholeheartedly serve our children.

From February to March 2007, our village received 4 branches of tour group one after another. The internal sponsors have increased 2 in the base of 9. Among 182 children, 38 children have international sponsors. We have 97 international sponsors. In addition, there are 14 sponsors are the facility sponsors. Up to now, we have 11 internal sponsors.

We work carefully according to the requirement of SOS Children and send monthly report to the sponsorship office and national office. And examined and verified the families’ accounts. And we have improved the accounting system.
This year, we received the Deputy National Director Mr. Cai Jie and his party to inspect our work; and received the foreign teacher Mr. Jay Joseph and his party’s visit to our village.

The medical work is going smoothly. Every year, we give our children health checkup twice and give all the staffs’ health checkup once. We took the new children, the nursery school children and the graduates of the primary school to have health check up. We changed free paid medical book for our children and got the free paid medical book for new children.

On June 30, 2007, our village held a donation ceremony of receiving the donated articles from the Dumex Company. Mr. Bai Yihua, the National director of SOS Children’s Village China, Mrs. Wang Kangying, the Party Committee of Lhasa Civil Affairs Bureau, Mr. Pu Jiabin, the chief inspector of the Inter Company and some people attended the donation ceremony. The Inter Company signed 5 years’ donation contract with our village. On this donation ceremony, they donated an Iveco coach at the price of RMB 220,000.00 Yuan. They also collected every child’s wish and took to their company. They promised the children to try their best to help them to let their wish become true. The ceremony was successful.

We have completely finished the water supply-line and replaced all the road lights in the village. We repaired the rain protected material for each family.

We held sports meet during the children’s winter holiday. Our children were active to it. Through setting-up exercises to radio music, leg wrappings, relay race, and rope skipping and some competitions, our children strengthened the capacity of desperation and collective spirit. They competed the level and style. We used the winter holiday to let our children attend the morning exercise to strengthen their body and also let them know the useful person who is useful for the country should be good at moral, intelligence, Physical Education and many aspects.

We took the children who are up Grade 4 to visit the educational place of Tibet frontier guards. Through the pictures and explaining, our children could directly experience the frontier guards devote themselves to protect our country; Through visiting the Lang Zisha exhibition to let the children know the comparison between the old Tibet and new Tibet and experience today’s happy life to very hard to earn.

B. Nursery School work
Under the direct leadership and care of the village, all the works in the village nursery school are getting on smoothly. This year, we have opened a Preschool class. Now, there are 7 teachers and 73 children in the nursery school. Among the kids, there are 9 and village kids 64 outside kids.

According to the rule of the nursery school, we gave the kids good health check-up. The nursery school invited the kid’s parents to hold some activities to promote the cooperation between home and nursery school and received good result. The village also singed the contract on the nursery school work and rewarding and punishment. Continue to hold the education and discussion meeting and let the kid’s parents come into the class. Through improving education in many ways, the nursery school work is improved a lot.

C. Work of SOS Youth House
On September 26, our village held a ceremony for 11 youth who are up to 14 moved into SOS Youth House. These Youth are the first bunch to move into the Youth House. Up to now, the Youth House has made related rules and responsibilities for each staffs. These youth have got used to the life there. All the work is going smoothly.
