Sponsor a child Morelia, Mexico

Child sponsorship update from the SOS Children's Village Morelia, Mexico from Winter 2008.

We are writing from Morelia, Capital of the Michoacan State and one of the most beautiful cities in the Mexican Republic, where its majestic pink quarry cathedral dresses the main square of elegancy and makes it an exclusive place.

Between a mixture of happiness and sadness, we want to share with you the main activities we have carried out during this last semester. On one hand, the satisfaction of telling you that we have reached many achievements; and on the other hand, the indignation we are involved in, due to the attempt at the Morelia’s main square on September 15th, where two grenades exploded among the crowd who was celebrating one more year of the Mexico’s Independence Anniversary.

Moving to more emotive topics, it is great to inform you that nowadays the Village houses 50 girls, and 38 boys who integrate the 10 families which form our community. It is expected to open a new house with 9 more children, at the end of October. The preparations are intensive and Elvira, the future mother, will assist to the Training Center to course the first formation level to become mother, during the first days of October.

Children's achievements at school

The school grades of the school year which finished during the firs days of July were excellent for some girls and boys, as in the case of: Laurita who got a 9.6 average, Esmeralda 9.1, Karla 9.1, Rocío 9.0 and Juanita 9.0 . We also had other cases for which the average was not as good; however, with the adequate attention from the mother, family and collaborators, it is expected that these children will be able to improve their grades very soon.

The new school year started in the middle of August. All children were registered, which means, that nowadays all children are studying. Rocio, one of the oldest girls in the community, was the first in starting the secondary school; therefore, we expect she be a model for all children who are younger than her.

Mothers and aunts have participated in different conferences, courses, and Workshops. We will celebrated the two mothers appointment; an aunt will finish the formation third level; two the second one; and three will start with the first one, at the end of this year.

For Christmas Eve, some families will get together, and others will celebrate it with the SOS mother’s biological family, where girls and boys have already got a piece at their hearts.

Wishing that this ending year life still smiles at you, and it richly brings back to you the whole support you have provided us with; we say goodbye!! being grateful for your hearts’ generosity.

Regards,

Adrián Romero Ramos
