Child sponsorship update from Managua, Nicaragua
Update for child sponsors from the SOS Children's Village Managua, Nicaragua from Winter 2008
It is pleasure sharing with you general activities carried out during the years which have been part of the daily task just to provide happiness to our children and adolescents; in the village we have 14 families and 4 youth facilities which are part of our big family.
During the first week of February we could see the enthusiasm of the children, adolescents and young people for returning to their classrooms, meeting new friends and enjoy the new school season. In the case of the young people, they initiated a distinct stage starting the University which meant a radical change to some of them and a new challenge in their lives. February meant the expression of those good feelings as we celebrated St. Valentine’s Day, where din not lack symbolic details for showing the each others’ esteem.
In March, 30 youngsters of the 4 youth facilities shared with external young people reflection spaces sharing a spiritual exercise. April brought to us moment to deepen about life. Therefore we have been in activities such as religious, educational, sports, recreational and cultural where children, adolescents and young people showed so much cheerfulness for being part of the SOS family.
Particularly our villagers easily demonstrate feelings and emotions to other people and further to their loved ones, thus in May we celebrated the Mothers’ Day and as a introduction of this celebration our children, adolescents and youngsters received the visit of Miss Canada and other four finalist on the contest braking up the whole protocol, children and young people were so happy because they just behaved spontaneous… like they are.
Celebrating events in Managua, Nicaragua
In June our SOS community celebrated the week of the childhood and adolescence opening with cultural and recreational events in the afternoons in which for first time we had the SOS beauty election where the panel of judges was integrated by SOS friends who valued the creativity, commitment and dynamism of the participants.
July was lovely as we celebrated the anniversary of four youth facilities, at this activity young people showed emotions, feelings and reminiscence for that childhood living with their SOS brothers and sisters, so they carried out four spaces (religious, educative, social and recreational). This type of reunions fortifies principles learnt in the SOS village.
August, September and October children, adolescents and young people participated in local and national activities that reformed their roots getting involved in religious activities venerating the name of St. Domingo de Guzman (a traditional catholic saint). On the other hand, in September they cheerfully participated on the patriotic day directly with school.
November was a particular and a special month as we had the visit of the worldwide president of SOS Children who came to inaugurate The SOS Children’s Village RIVAS located in the south of Nicaragua. He brought to us the example of perseverance, serenity and undertaking to triumph in life being faithful to those principles (love, solidarity, reliance and commitment) that characterised our children, adolescence, youngsters and each co-worker.
Now we are waiting for Christmas, occasion where children look forward to have a great moment in family union.
Therefore, on behalf of the SOS Children's Village Managua we wish you a Merry and a happy new year.
Best regards,
Rolando Antonio Solís Contreras
