Child sponsorship update from the SOS Children's Village Dakar, Senegal from Summer 2008

Dakar SOS children village (first SOS children village of Senegal, more than 30 years of age) takes this year in charge:

- 150 children (82 boys and 68 girls) admitted in 15 family houses of the village. In the school field, 40 children frequent the kindergarten, 93 are in the elementary teaching, 8 in the middle teaching, the rest is not schooled (less than 2 years of age). With the exit of teenagers and the new child admission (less than 5 years old); we notice that the village’s population knew a rejuvenation.

- The SOS Children's Village also frames 108 teenagers who have left some different SOS Children's Villages and who reside now in Dakar and in its suburbs. Their framing is assured by a staff of young educators who is charged of the accompaniment and the following of young people.
A new concept of the young framing is in process of being put in place with new orientations and recommendations.

- The village has also supported since January 2008, 40 families in a district of Dakar (Taïba Grand Dakar, a district not very far from the Village) with more than 250 recipients, in the setting of the Family Strengthening Programme.
Various activities and events have taken place during this year, and have strongly been mediatized:

Events at Dakar, Senegal

Let's note the visit of the president of the international federation of SOS Children in May 2008, and of of Mrs. Viviane Wade, the First Lady of Senegal.

The beautiful troop of dance of the SOS children village also impressed the public during the visit; at Magic land, an space set for the children (in front of the Senegalese television) during the Festival of the Children Kingdom in front of the authorities of the country (ministers, members of parliament etc;). The visit of the president was a success for SOS Children.

Our SOS mothers and some children were also invited to the Senegalese Radio Television, during the Mother's Day where homage has been returned to the SOS village its noble mission towards the disinherited children. People really appreciated their speech.

Finally, let’s underline that the Mom called Maty Guèye has been elected democratically the best SOS mother of the village for her engagement, her availability, and her affection towards her children who are triplets (3 boys of 6 years old). She has taken them in charge since the age of 4 months.

Dear sponsors, we will not stop thanking you for all you do for the children of SOS Villages.

The Director of the SOS Children’s Village.
