Child sponsorship update from Bogra, Bangladesh
Update for child sponsors from the SOS Children's Village Bogra, Bangladesh from June 2008.
Dear friends,
It is great pleasure to greet you again as the very important member of our world-wide big SOS family and inform you of the recent developments in your sponsored, SOS Children’s Village Bogra.
SOS Children’s Village Bogra is a home of 64 girls and 43 boys. Now a total number of 90 children are in education. 52 are in primary level, 30 are in Secondary level and 3 are in higher secondary level. 3 girls will appear at the Higher Secondary Certificate examination this year. Girls of SOS Children’s Village Bogra took part Inter School Volleyball competition and got championship in Thana and District level competitions. Our Children won the championship in another district level tournament organised by Bogra District Women’s Sports Association. All the local newspapers gave coverage of these tournaments with due important.
SOS Youth Home Bogra has received 42 boys from SOS Children’s Village till now. Among them 29 are residing in Youth Home, 04 boys are in Farm project Bagerhat, 02 are in Vocational Training Center Dhaka, 2 boys are studying in university, 4 boys are in different jobs and one boy is staying with his parents now. At present 24 of our Youth Home boys are reading in SOS College Bogra. 4 of them are Higher Secondary Certificate examination candidates, 3 read in class XI, 6 are S.S.C. candidates, 5 are in class X and 6 are in class IX. 4 boys are studying in other local school. They are in class VII to Class X.
Educating and providing training for the community at Bogra, Bangladesh
582 pupils are studying in SOS College Bogra, established to provide educational facilities to our Children as well as students of neighboring areas. Emphasis is given on English Language. Importance is also given to instill discipline and moral education among the students. SOS Scholarships were awarded to all the students. One teacher also got the SOS Academic award.
The SOS Social Centre Bogra has been providing very highlighting services for the socio-economic development of destitute mothers and children - getting food security, educational support as well as treatment facilities through FSP (Family Strengthening Programme). FSP programme is provided to families with children less than 18 years of age and are directed towards the family as a whole, including all the children and care-givers within the family. While the vulnerable children are our target group and are the primary beneficiaries of the program, their care-givers are included as secondary beneficiaries because they are supported to develop their capacity to protect and care for their children. At present 230 children from 185 families are getting help from family strengthening programme.
