Mother's Day
“Mother is security, mother is warmth of the family, mother is stability, mother is tenderness, mother is the warm meal, the reprimand for the broken vase, mother is the smile when I get good grade, mother is knowing all our secrets, mother is the wrinkle of care, mother is affection, mother is love. Mother is a gentle hand on my hair and a warm kiss good night. Mother is the most beautiful word in the world and I love saying it." Child from the SOS Children’s Village Tbilisi, Georgia on what a mother means to them.
Mother’s Day gift for charity
With less than a week to go until Mother’s Day in the UK, you may be thinking what represents the love of a mother - be it your own mother or someone who has filled that place; then why not sponsor a child as a Mother’s Day present? We can set up a child sponsorship for your mum for a Mother’s Day present and it can all be done on our website. Please explain in the special 'instructions' box on the secure child sponsorship form what you would like us to do.
We are very used to sponsorships being a present for Christenings, Birthdays or Christmas and are set up to send packs and updates to a different address from the billing address for the sponsorships. All you have to do to take out a sponsorship completing the details in the simple instructions box with how you would like it set up. We will read these instructions carefully and do exactly what you request, or get back in touch if unsure.
It is hard to see how someone could be disappointed with such a gift of love. We will then follow this up with the full sponsorship pack about the chosen child in the next couple of weeks.
Mother’s Day around the world
Celebrated with lots of joy and love means that the children and their SOS Mothers enjoy a very special day. Children who have lost everything whether through war of famine or simply because their biological mothers are unable to care for them.
Often SOS Mothers spend a lifetime of caring for children and raising them as her own. SOS children love to sing for their mothers and at school feel proud that they have mothers like the other children. They make cards, give mother's day presents to the women they call mum.
SOS families from different countries celebrate Mother’s Day - read more about how SOS children receive love and care from their SOS Mothers worldwide; from Estonia, Jordan and Malawi. You can also read interviews with SOS mothers about how they care for children in India, Kenya, Russia and Vietnam.
