Child sponsorship update from the SOS Children's Village Leon, Nicaragua from Summer 2008

Receive the warmest greeting on behalf of the children, adolescents and co-workers of the SOS Children’s Village Leon. It is unbelievable how the time goes away, another year has concluded and our Village grows in experiences same as the children and adolescents.

The school season at the moment is concluding, and most of our children will be on vacation on November 23rd, once they finish the last tests, we already a good quantity of adolescents who will begin the secondary school which makes them happy with expectative.

Among the experiences that i World like to share with you in this opportunity is the Hurricane called Alma that stroke the pacific zone of Nicaragua in May, specifically on May 29th, close to celebrate the Mothers’ Day, all the children’s preparation were affected for the lamentable nature phenomenon. We had rainy days for 24 hours, but under this regrettable situation emerge the greatness of the human being and especially from our SOS families when we saw the impact of the phenomenon, so they responded immediately recollecting provisions to provide to the neighboring families affected.

On June 1st, the international children’s day as well was effected by the weather; children understood the situation and accepted with maturity a little feast as that moment we had not electricity, but SOS mothers were not satisfied, so they prepared for the next weekend a great party once again with piñatas, clowns and a delicious food.

On July 28 we had the visit of Oscar Canon, a Colombian cyclist that was traveling from Alaska to Colombia, during his trip he visits all the SOS Villages on the road, children and SOS mothers received him with so much joy, but as well we had the visit of another Argentinean biker called Damian Lopez that had visited the village in April and took videos and pictures of all the children in the SOS village of Leon.

August was very happy which we celebrated in the city of Leon LA GRITERIA or the Little Shout, a feast that we celebrate year by year on August 14th as compensation to promises asked to Mary, Mother of God. September was very important for our country and our department as we celebrate the national feast and patrons’. Children of the village participated in the parade on 12th.

On November 11th, we had a great feast in the SOS Children’s Village of Rivas, where children, special guests, SOS co-workers and members of the board got together with the worldwide president of SOS Children Association to celebrate the opening of this SOS village, located in the south side of the country; “it is not necessary being just a good professional, it is most important being a good person” .
