Child sponsorship update from Tehuacan

Update for child sponsors from the SOS Children's Village Tehuacan, Mexico from Autumn/Winter 2008.

Dear Sponsors:

We say hello from the Tehuacan City, which in general is still very quiet, cradle of the corn, and characterised by its springs. We gladly tell you, through these lines, some events which have happened in the families’ core which integrate this Village.

This Village nowadays houses 55 girls and 51 boys integrated in the 12 families which form our Community. Through these last six months, we have had the delight of taking in 9 girls and 6 boys who were welcomed in the houses 4, 6 and 7. The family of the house number 9 received 7 little angels, who have stolen the every body’s heart, due to the fact that they are the youngest children in the community.

The girls Nadia Guadalupe, Natividad, Perla, and Guadalupe registered themselves into a local contest of artistic skills; since their registration, nervous and excited set up the choreography for their participation. The aspects to be evaluated were: a chant, scenic movement, self-control before the audience, and the voice.

On the event’s day, the Village left completely empty due to the fact that the all families assisted to cheer the four participants. The community made flags, pompoms, banners, and tins to cheer the participants. The four girls performed their act doing their best. Nadia Guadalupe and Natividad moved to the semifinal, even though, unfortunately, they could not reach the final phase; however, for these four girls it was an unforgettable experience, and they still remember that moment with joy and exaltation. They appreciated very much their mothers’ complicity in their dreams and life projects.

Preparing children for the future

Another important experience to share with you, is about the youth community where the youths are still preparing themselves to be more independent, self-confident, and self-sufficient, joint to the support given by the mothers and the youth leader, who provide them with constant accompaniment.

One of the boys, Cesar Noe contacted his biological mother through the Village and one Government office. He has had 3 meetings up to now, and Cesar Noe is very happy of knowing that he has a biological family who love him and are interested in him. This situation keeps him very motivated to continue with his labor training.

The Volkswagen Enterprise’s Foundation launched a call, which we took advantage of, to submit the project called: “Technology within reach of boys, girls and youths”. Fortunately, the project was accepted and thanks to the SOS Children’s Village good reputation, the 12 families of the community have nowadays a computer.

Mothers and aunts are still taking Workshops, chats and conferences to acquire more and better Tools, skills, media which allow them to apply the excellence principle in their daily labor.

Among the festivities we have celebrated, we found: the SOS Children’s Villages Anniversary; and the Independence Day, which was celebrated depending on the families’ taste, by attending to different events organised by local enterprises or by the municipality.

For Christmas, as every year, the families’ dynamics will be respected according to their own likes and interests.
