A child sponsorship update from Lahore in Pakistan

Update for child sponsors from the SOS Children's Village Lahore, Pakistan from Spring 2008.

Dear Sponsor,

This time we are enclosing our news letter, which covers all the events that took place throughout the year. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we did being part of it. Activities are planned on a regular basis which enhance the children’s interpersonal and social skills and also lead to positive exposure enabling the development of the children’s knowledge and understanding while at the same time allowing them to have a delightful time

In November children enjoyed the Activity day arranged by Unilever. It was good to see their young staff interacting with our children. National highway Police took the children for an outing to a wild life park and also arranged a sumptuous lunch

In December as usual we had the much awaited New Year party with food and music. A huge bonfire was lit which provided warmth in the cold night.

In January the children were invited to a movie by a newspaper group. Watching a film in a cinema hall is always a treat. This gives them a chance to dress up nicely and go out which is a nice change.

Children looking forward

February and March were spent studying for the final exams, and now they are waiting for the results All those who have done well, will be given prizes, and they are looking forward to this event.

After the result you can’t imagine the excitement of children getting new uniforms, shoes and of course new books. On 23rd March the re-union of ex-SOS children was a big affair. Most of them turned up with their families and proudly showed them the houses they once occupied. It was heartening to see them reminiscing about old times

Eid-Milad-ul- Nabi (The Prophet‘s Birthday) was celebrated with great fervor and dignity as befitting the occasion. In the evening the children enjoyed lighting candles and diyas (lamps) decorating the village and making it look like a fairy land.

On this happy note we end our report with a promise of more exciting news in our next letter.

Have a great summer.

Almas Butt, Village Director & Ghazala Rehman, National Director
