Child sponsorship update from Jorpati
Update for child sponsors from the SOS Children's Village Jorpati, Nepal from Winter 2008
Dear Sponsors / friends,
The time has passed very rapidly. We are, once again, at the end of the year. Two big festivals Christmas and New Year are drawing closer. Today, on this happy occasion, we would like to extend our heartiest greetings for you and your families’ good health, happiness, peace and prosperity. At the same time, we are very much pleased to share the brief report of our youths.
Youth facility will successfully complete its four years of establishment on second February, 2009. All the youths are continuously enjoying their semi-independent living. They are more focused in their respective academic and vocational field. On 7th May, two girls were shifted to rented rooms under the independent living program. On 11th July, other two girls, from Jorpati Village were shifted to the Youth Facility after completing their School Leaving Certificate examination. This coming year also, we are planning to integrate two girls from Youth Home.
Academic Field
Youths have shown good performance in their academic fields. Narbada has successfully completed her one year Post Graduate Diploma in Education from Mahendra Sanskrit University. Now she has joined Master's Degree majoring in Sociology at Tribhuvan University. Similarly, Saraswati Aryal and Jayanti are just about to complete their Bachelor Programme. On the other hand, Rajkumari, Anita and Geeta have been enrolled in the Bachelor’s Programme. Amrita is now in the final year of Intermediate Level majoring in Sociology and Mass Communication where as Heera and Parwati have been studying in grade eleven in the faculty of Humanities at National Integrated College. Also they both have chosen Sociology and Mass Communication respectively as major subjects.
Skills training
Youth are equally performing well in their vocational fields. Manju and Saraswati Shah are doing well in their respective fields continuously. Manju has again shown her good performance in cultural program and also participated in cultural shows which were organised outside of the valley. Now, she is searching the full time job to make her life more independent. Saraswati Shah got new job in a beauty parlour. She is very much happy and interested with her job. So, she is giving good service in the Beauty Saloon. Both of them are earning little amount of money these days.
Besides studies, Saraswati Aryal is still giving her volunteer service of teaching Non Formal Education to women. Geeta has been the member of "Independent Living for Disables", an organisation working to uplift the status of differently abled people. On the other hand, Jayanti has successfully completed Office Secretary Course from Pokhara Vocational Training Centre this year. She is also trying her level best to edit some articles as a volunteer sub-editor of quarterly publication of Gurukul: school of theatre (a well renowned theatre group of the country) located near to the Youth Facility.
Programme of events
On 26th July, the joint interaction and meeting between youths and mothers were held at Boys Facility Home, Koteshwor. Village Director and Youth Counselors of both the facilities were present in the meeting. Youths had shared their individual progress within one year. Each mother was provided enough time to have interactions with her youths. Later on, feedbacks were drawn from mothers after the meeting which helped in making further educational and career plan for the youths. The main purpose of the meeting is to emphasis on following up of the Youth Development Plan which was mutually agreed by Youths and Youth leaders. Besides, it also provides opportunities to review over all academic activities done by the youth and youth facilities, in past.
On 26th August, as recommended by our doctor and Gynecologist, one of our daughters underwent for small surgery. After regular follow ups and regular medication intake, she is completely fine now and has recovered fully. Other girls are quite healthy and didn’t require any medical treatment for the whole year.
Jayanti, Manju and Parwati visited their biological family members during Dashain Festival this year. At that time, they had an opportunity to meet and interact with their relatives. Jayanti stayed at her home only for short period but Manju and Parwati stayed with their family for nearly one month. We believe that such visits will help to build up the ties with their biological families and relatives.
Dear Sponsors, once again we would like to express our warmest greetings and best wishes on the Happy Occasion of Merry Christmas and New Year, 2009. On this special occasion, we take this good opportunity to express our sincere thanks for all of your kind help and regular support. We believe that we will be able to get such support in upcoming days also to carry on our work together.
Merry Christmas and New Year 2009
Yours Sincerely,
SOS Youth Facility
Ms. Ratna Shova Maharjan, Youth Incharge and Mr. Rabin Nepali, Director
