Update report for child sponsorship from the SOS Children's Village Kaolack
Kaolack SOS Children’s Village welcomes today one hundred and one (101) children aged from 01 to 15 years old, divided in 10 familial houses. Two new houses are being built and will be ready within two months and will allow the Village to welcome new children.
On the school plan, the results are satisfactory :
• Elementary school : 87% of success that is to say 40/46
• Secondary school : 74% of success that is to say 14/19
The socio educational activities occupy an important place in the life of the Village. That is the way diverse activities have been led.
- Sport : football, basket ball, karate
- Artistic initiation : theatre, painting, graphy drawing, dyeing batik
- Manual activities : cutting off, sticking
The children also attend the cybers and got initiated to the computer tool. Important results have been recorded in this field. That is the way Thierno Ndiaye has been appointed the best actor of the inter school theatre festival. Two of our children have been selected in Karate at the school and university sport festival.
A lot of demonstrations have been organised and the most important ones were :
- On March o8th 2,008 the SOS mothers celebrated the International Woman’s Day. It was a great opportuning for our SOS mothers to shave with the other women of the town and representatives of the other SOS Villages of Senegal. The ceremony was presided over by the governor.
- On April 3rd, 4th and 5th 2,008 many artist coming from Senegal to take place to the laughter festival, offered the numerous public a great spectacle.
Children's activities through the year
- On April 31st 2,008 a thought day on the children’s rights was held in the SOS children’s Village in the presence of obligation holders and children of different categories. During this thought a network on the child protection was installed.
- On May 17th and 18th the Village community celebrated the first communions. That is how eight of our children participated to the ceremony organised at the Saint Theophile Carhedral. It was a moment of intense joy for the children.
As far as visits are concerned the Village welcomed many guests during the first half of the years including:
• Mr Bourget, Regional Director
• Mr Balla Moussa Keita, Supervisor of Senegal accompanied by Mr Modou Awa Balla Fall, National Educational Adviser
• Mrs Salimata Gaye Diagne, National Director
• Miss Maïmouna Sene, Responsible partnership, accompanied by the Social Assistant Mrs Dieynaba Touré
• Mr Abdou Salam Cissé, Responsible for Human Resources
On the sanitary plan all the children suffering from dermatosis have been taken to hospital. They regularly follow the treatment established by the doctor. Every fortnight they are got rid of the parasites.
On the cultural plan, during the first trimester two conferences have been organised, as well as cultural gatherings talks and debates.
