A report from the SOS Children's Village Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina: The Biggest Christmas Card Ever

The Biggest Christmas Card Ever

Do you receive many Christmas cards with wishes for health, happiness and joy? Which is your favourite motif? The children from SOS Children's Village Sarajevo couldn't decide which one to send you, so they made a big one with all the motifs.

We got together one late November afternoon to make a special Christmas card for you. We weren't quite sure what to draw. Everyone suggested different things. Milan claimed the Christmas tree represents all there is about the season. Selvedina said musical instruments send a message of happiness.

Amina was sure Santa Claus is what makes Christmas "because he brings all the presents which make us happy," she explained. Arnela came up with a wise suggestion: "Why don't we draw all those things on a big piece of paper?" The idea was immediately accepted and so the biggest Christmas card in the world was born.

"I want to wish you a Merry Christmas with snow," said Abid. He crumbled some Styrofoam and glued it on the paper. "The snow will fall on the Christmas tree," said Milan and drew a big tree in the middle. "Decorated in the most beautiful colours," added Amina and drew the lampoons in different colours.

"The instruments send you merry Christmas carols," said Selvedina and drew a trumpet with some musical notes. "I wish you receive many presents," added Eldin and drew some nicely wrapped packages. "Balloons for happiness," said Sanela. "And here's Santa Claus to make all your wishes come true."

"How about some firecrackers?" asked Eldin. "The ones we hear on New Year's Eve," he explained to the others. "I don't crack any, I know they're dangerous." Jointly we agreed on couple of firecrackers which make the rainbow of colours in the New Year's sky.

"Spring forever no matter how cold it is outside," romantic Arnela added flowers on the card. "And love, lots of it, for all the children of the world and all the people of the world."

And there it is - the biggest Christmas card in the world made just for you! We knew it wouldn't fit in your mailbox and we didn't want to upset the postman. Instead we made it more beautiful and twice as merry on a photo with the smiles of all the authors around it. Merry Christmas!
