Greek financial crisis: Families turn to SOS Children for help

Families affected by the financial crisis in Greece are struggling to care for their children. SOS Children has seen a 70% increase in requests for support from parents unable to afford to provide for their families. We are helping families to stay together through our four Family Strengthening Programmes in the country, which provide tailored support to enable children to grow up with their parents.
Bulgaria: SOS Children projects unaffected by earthquake

A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 at the Richter scale hit Bulgaria at 3 am this morning (Tuesday 22 May) approximately 20km from SOS Children's Village Dren. We have received the good news that all children, SOS mothers and staff from the Village are safe. SOS Children will offer temporary shelter to those in need.
South Sudan: Unaccompanied children begin to arrive at SOS Shelters

As the first planes taking South Sudanese living in Sudan to the South Sudan capital of Juba began to land last week, we have been stepping up our facilities in the country to provide unaccompanied children with basic services including food, water, and healthcare.

Ukraine is one of the poorest countries in Europe. Despite limited economic growth, the situation for children growing up in Ukraine is far from ideal and thousands are estimated to survive living on the streets of the capital Kiev. Through our community projects, SOS Children are working to provide both practical help and psychological care for street children in Ukraine.

Dr. Abdullahi Hussein, a Somali-born doctor who dedicated his life to providing medical care for his own population, suffered a fatal stroke in Mogadishu on April 13, 2012, at just 50 years old. He passed away just before a planned trip to see his wife and children in England.
Mali: Displaced children offered an education in SOS Schools

Fears grow for child safety in Mali

Widespread unrest in Mali resulted in the evacuation of children, SOS mothers and staff from SOS Children’s Village Mopti in early April. Although they have settled in well to their new surroundings, concern for the safety of children in the country as a whole is growing. Helping children to deal with traumatic experiences in Nicaragua

Matthew is welcomed home after four-year long worldwide cycle ride for SOS Children

Matthew Blake, 25, from Chacombe in Oxfordshire has just returned from an epic four-year cycle ride around the world. Covering a distance of over 45,000 miles, Matthew has travelled through 61 countries whilst raising valuable funds to support our new SOS Children’s Village currently being built in Chipata in Zambia.
