Tanya Franks supports SOS Children

Our supporters ensure that orphaned and abandoned children can grow up in a loving home in an SOS Children's Village. Meet Tanya Franks, one of our supporters, who sponsors a child with SOS Children and is soon to host a fundraising event.

“I urge you to come on board to support the remarkable children
and villages of SOS.” - Tanya Franks

“The ethos of SOS Children’s Villages to provide a stable loving family and environment to orphans in their own homeland is what makes this charity so incredibly special,” says Tanya Franks - a talented and versatile actor.

Tanya Franks is a regular on our TV screens and has starred in Eastenders, The Bill, Doctors, Holby City and the BAFTA winning drama Broadchurch - to name just a few. Tanya has appeared in Hollywood films and on the West End stage. She also has her own production company, Stock-Pot Productions, and has made three short films so far.

Talking of her admiration for how children are cared for in SOS Children's Villages, Tanya says,

“An SOS ‘Mother' is carefully selected and trained over three years to provide them with the supportive tools they need to nurture up to ten children at any one time. The Villages provide homes, schools, doctors, and all the facilities required for the upbringing of the children.”

“Lights. Camera. Action!” -  explore an SOS Children's Village

In the spirit of Tanya's passion for acting and films, these budding film-makers wish to show you around SOS Children's Village Tlokweng in Botswana. If you are new to SOS Children one of the best ways to understand what we do, and the difference that it makes to vulnerable children, is to watch our short videos. The moving images make our work come alive!

As the children from Botswana explain, they are cared for by an SOS mother and grow up in an SOS family home with other children - their SOS brothers and sisters. Each Children's Village is unique, and built to fit in with the surrounding neighbourhood. We respect local cultures, beliefs and traditions, and children grow up connected to their community.

Across 125 countries there are 547 Children's Villages, collectively caring for over 60,000 children. Find out where we work...

We know that education is vital for a child's development and future, which is why young children in our care receive pre-school education at SOS Nurseries. Older children go to local schools, or SOS Primary and Secondary Schools. Their health is also our concern, and our Medical Centres ensure they stay fit, healthy and happy. All the way up to a young person becoming independent, we support them to reach their potential.

We also work to prevent children from becoming abandoned, by supporting families to stay together. Our Family Strengthening Programmes provide a range of services to fragile families, helping them to become strong, resilient and self-reliant. When natural disaster or conflict endangers children's safety and well-being, our global network quickly delivers emergency relief to those affected.
