Many warm greetings from children, mothers and Co-workers of the SOS Children’s Village Angkor- Siem Reap. As we come up the end of the year 2011, we are happy to submit a report on some of the activities that took place within the SOS Children’s Angkor- Siem Reap.
In SOS Children’s Village Angkor-Siem Reap we have a total of 141 children of age 3-19 years, include 70 girls and 71 boys. Each family home has ten children. Within the year, 11 children admissions were made into the village from various areas in the country and they are well adopted in new SOS family. They come to our village due to their family affairs such as parents divorce and death etc.
The yearly medical checks up have been done. Everybody is in a good health. We have currently 41 youths living in the SOS Youth House. There are 3 youth leaders are working with them to support our youths who make their biggest effort in order to prepare for their future independent life. Most of our youth at universities and college are doing extremely well. One of them has been ranked amongst the best student in Electrical Engineering at university in Phnom Penh.
One of our youth can teach Karate-do to our children at the village and he also gets small money for his teaching fee. Their SOS mothers and youth leaders are very proud of them and motivate them to keep making their effort. Children are participating in different programme and competition inside and outside the village. Our 18 children have participated football competition in the occasion of 10 year anniversary of SOS Children’s Villages Cambodia in Phnom Penh January12-17, 2011. Our children won the 3rd prize in this completion.
We continue to work hard to improve upon the educational standards of the children. The academic year 2011-2012 started on September 21st, 2011. This September 141 children are attending school and university.
We have been organizing the remedial class of Khmer literature for 38 children from grade 1 to 4 at night time within the village. The supplementary classes (Mathematic, Khmer literature, English listening and speaking class, computer typing and knitting class are organized by our Educators in the village. On the other hand, those children and youths are attending different private school English according to their age and capability.
The SOS School Angkor Siem Reap has continued to do well in the academic, cultural and sport activities. Our school has 580 students who 124 students are on SOS scholarships for very poor family. SOS School is operating a full day’s programme and the students can access internet, computers and library room. This year our students have passed the national high school and secondary school examination100% with a good score. The SOS nursery Angkor Siem Reap is always full of pupils. This year there are 111 pupils (53 girls and 58 boys) including 31 pupils are on the SOS scholarship attending full day’s programme. They enjoy their school time with toys, games and their professional teachers.
The SOS Vocational Training Center has been providing practical training course to 138 students for seven batches which 115 boys were graduated and are working for Hotels and private Companies with suitable salary. Amongst them four has own business in Siem Reap.
On the 21st January 2011, we celebrated 10 year anniversary of SOS Children’s Villages Phnom Penh during that time one mother have received SOS Mother’s Statute book who dedicate her service to organization for two year.
On 23rd June were celebrated through good cultural progamme. All children, mothers and co-workers participated and spend this day with a great interest. At that day, we had also organized and answers relate to this day in the morning. In the evening, we prepared some foods and drink.
This summer vacation, a-day picnic trip of children and their mothers had been visited Koh Ke and Beng Mealea temples in Previhea and Siem Reap province. Moreover we had organized a summer camp for 17 outstanding children and youths to visit a new SOS Children’s Village Ratanakiri and visited many places in Ratanakiri province.
